Todung Mulya Lubis is the founder and Senior Partner of Lubis Santosa & Maramis. He graduated from Faculty of Law University of Indonesia (Sarjana Hukum) in 1974 and attended law course at the Institute of American and International Law in Dallas (1977). Todung Mulya Lubis obtained his master degree (LL.M) from University of California at Berkeley in 1978 and Harvard University in 1987. He also holds Doctor of Juridical Science (SJD) from the University of California at Berkeley (1990). He speaks Bahasa Indonesia and English.
Todung Mulya Lubis is heavily engaged in all corporate and commercial practice as well as dispute resolution works of the firm. He led the corporate and commercial practice group of the firm in the number of major transactions. He also intensively involved and led the firm’s dispute resolution practice group in high profile litigations of the firm. Todung Mulya Lubis has been described in Chambers Global as the “most highly effective advocates in Indonesia” and “an invaluable lobbyist with an extraordinary profile and enormous clout”.
He is also listed in The International Who’s Who of Business Lawyers as a leading lawyer in dispute resolution in Indonesia. The Asia Pacific Legal 500 – 2006/2007 edition also voted Todung Mulya Lubis as a leading individual in dispute resolution practice in Indonesia.
Todung Mulya Lubis is a member of Indonesian Bar Association (IKADIN), Association of Capital Market Legal Consultants (Himpunan Konsultan Hukum Pasar Modal/HKHPM) and International Bar Association (IBA). He is also a licensed Receiver and Administrator as well as Registered Patent Consultant. Currently, he is a panel arbitrator of the Indonesian National Board of Arbitration (Badan Arbitrase Nasional Indonesia/BANI) and the International Chambers of Commerce (ICC) Paris.
In addition to his professional activities, T Mulya Lubis is a lecturer in a number of universities in Indonesia. He lectures law related subjects in the Faculty of Law University of Indonesia, Jakarta, Faculty of Economics University of Indonesia, Jakarta, Faculty of Law Atmajaya University, Yogyakarta and Faculty of Law University of North Sumatra, Medan. He is also active as a speaker in various onshore and offshore workshops, seminars or conference in the field of law and human rights.
Todung Mulya Lubis is also involved in the large number of non governmental organizations. He is the Chairman of the Indonesian International Crisis Group (ICG), Chairman of the Executive Board of Transparency International Indonesia (TI), Member of the Board of Trustees of the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI), Member of the Board of Trustees of the Center For Electoral Reform (CETRO), Member of the Board of Trustees of TIFA Foundation, Founding Member of the Indonesian Human Rights Monitor – IMPARSIAL, Founder of Foundation of Human Rights Studies Center (YAPUSHAM), Member of the Board of Trustees of the Indonesian Procurement Watch (IPW), Member of the Advisory Council for Conservation International Indonesia (CI).
Todung Mulya Lubis served as a Director of Jakarta Legal Aid Foundation (LBH) (1980-1983); Chairman of Regional Council on Human Rights in Asia, Manila, Philippines (1981 – 1985); Member of the Asian Coalition of Human Rights in Asia, Manila, the Philippines (1981 – 1985); International Advisor at Human Rights Advocates, Berkeley, USA (1983 – 1989); Member of the Asian Commission on Human Rights, Hong Kong (1984 – 1986) Founder of the Board of Human Rights Internet, Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA (1987 – 1989); President of The Jakarta Lawyer Club (1992 – 2000), Coordinator of University for Free and Fair Election (UNFREL) (1998 – 1999), Vice Chairman of the Indonesian Advocates Association (IKADIN) (1999 – 2000); Vice Chairman of Central General Election Supervising Committee (PANWASLU) (1999), Vice Chairman of Human Rights Investigation Commission for East Timor (1999) and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Transparency International Indonesia (TI) (2000 – 2003).
