Dr Mariosa Vella Cardona is a legal consultant specialising in European Law, Competition Law, Consumer Protection Law and Intellectual Property Law. Based in Malta, she has been servicing the local market since graduating as a lawyer in 1997.

She was admitted to the bar in 1998 and in 1999 furthered her studies by obtaining a Magister Juris in European and Comparative Law from the University of Malta

After serving as a legal officer within the public service assigned to the Maltese Law Courts, she joined Ganado Sammut Advocates, a leading Maltese law firm, as an Associate in 1999. Within the firm, Dr. Vella Cardona dealt mainly with European Law, Competition Law and Intellectual Property. In the period leading to Malta’s accession to the European Union, she was also actively involved in the screening process of Maltese laws in order to ensure that the same are in compliance with the EU acquis. Dr. Vella Cardona has also been regularly involved in carrying out lobbying exercises with Maltese and European authorities on behalf of clients.

During this same period Dr. Vella Cardona was also assigned the role of research consultant within Europa Research and Consultancy Limited, a subsidiary company of Ganado Sammut Advocates. In 2005, she proceeded to take up the role of director within the said company. In this role, she focused mainly on the bidding for local and EU tenders and also conducted a number of seminars and reports for clients which entailed a detailed analysis of particular EU laws and policies. She was also involved in the coordination of various translation projects.

In 2004, Dr. Vella Cardona was appointed as an external legal consultant on European Law to the MEP office of Hon. Dr Simon Busuttil MEP. She holds this role to the present date.

Dr. Vella Cardona is also a visiting lecturer in European Competition and Comparative Law at the University of Malta. She is also a regular contributor to The Times Business Weekly, having her own column on European law developments.

In 2007, Dr. Vella Cardona moved on to set up her own legal consultancy firm and is currently providing legal consultancy services within her areas of specialisation. Using a network of local and foreign professionals, an in-depth knowledge of the Maltese legislative and administrative systems together with an in-depth knowledge of the workings of the European Institutions, Dr Vella Cardona provides a comprehensive consultancy service that spans across both Maltese and European legal systems.
