Axel regularly advises clients on merger control, cartel and antitrust (e.g. dominance) cases before the Austrian competition authorities and on major competition cases in Central and Eastern Europe. He also acts for clients on notifications under the European Merger Regulation and in other cases at the European Commission.
In the area of state aid, he has helped various Austrian companies to get public financing schemes approved in Brussels. In competition litigation, he represents clients in private enforcement cases – for example, defending them against cease-and-desist claims before the Cartel Court and against cartel damage claims before the civil courts.
Axel has co-authored a practitioner’s guide to Austrian competition law (2nd edition 2008), praised by in-house lawyers and regulators alike for its innovative and practical approach.

With more than 245 Antitrust, Competition and Trade (ACT) lawyers in 15 countries, supported by our litigation practice, we are well placed to respond to global developments.
We advise clients across all sectors, including financial institutions and governments, on the complete range of ACT issues.
They include merger control, licensing and distribution, intellectual property, restrictive practices, abuse of dominance, cartel investigations and damages claims, compliance, state aid, liberalisation, privatisation, public procurement and trade.
We want to be the law firm that clients turn to for help on the mandates that matter most to them, wherever in the world that may be.
To succeed, we must be widely recognised as standing apart from other firms because our people are exceptional and because we are international and integrated in the way we work, we add value in everything we do and we are uncompromisingly committed to our values.
Set out below is our statement of who we are. It embodies our ambition to be exceptional, our culture and our absolute determination that all of us will work with each other, our clients and our other stakeholders, day in day out, in the way we describe to ensure we achieve our long-term aim.
