Adam K. Levin

Serving as the Litigation Practice Manager for our Washington office, Adam Levin handles civil litigation and government investigations across the United States.

Adam has represented some of the country’s most well-known companies in complex commercial matters ranging from billion dollar lawsuits to high-stakes investigations. With a particular focus on life sciences, pharmaceutical, and consumer-related disputes, Adam applies experience, practical solutions, and a team-oriented approach to our clients’ most challenging issues.

Adam’s class action experience is of particular note: he has handled nearly two dozen class actions in the last several years alone, including product matters and consumer class actions brought under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA). He served as trial counsel and obtained a unanimous appellate victory from the Connecticut Supreme Court in the defense of a nationwide class action alleging nearly US$100 million in damages. He co-argued the response to a motion that led to denial of certification for a putative nationwide RICO class. And he has experience handling all aspects of discovery and settlement proceedings in major class actions.

Adam is also a trial lawyer with a commitment to public service. His trial victories include successfully defending and prosecuting a US$90 million dispute, and he served as trial counsel for one of the most high-profile civil rights matters in recent years: the landmark Tulia, Texas case, which resulted in the release of 12 persons from jail, full pardons for 35 persons, and a settlement of more than US$6 million in a civil case for which Adam had principal daily responsibility. For these efforts and others, Adam and the firm have been honored by the NAACP Legal Defense & Educational Fund and the Washington Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights & Urban Affairs.

Before joining Hogan Lovells, Adam clerked for the Honorable Marjorie O. Rendell on both the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.

The Litigation Law Practice:

Hailed by industry commentators as “the best of the best” — a “go to firm” with a “prestigious reputation”— Hogan Lovells combines deep industry knowledge with a real grasp of the judicial process.

Our litigation group will effectively guide you through courts, tribunals, and governmental bodies, across the globe. We maintain a regular presence in courts and tribunals, and we have an enviable track record of success at all levels of the judicial process — so much so that industry analyst BTI Consulting described us in 2015 as a “fearsome opponent.”

We want to win, but also know that it is often better to be out of court rather than in it. So we always think strategically about what is best for you. Says Chambers 2015 about us, “They always make you feel like you’re their most important client.”

Hogan Lovells has more than 2,500 lawyers in over 45 offices worldwide, yet we work as one seamless team, ensuring we serve your best interests across borders and forums. Of the top international corporations, we’ve advised 50 of the Fortune 100, 34 of the FTSE 100, and 17 of the DAX 30, often on high-stakes, bet-the-company litigation.

Hogan Lovells:

Change is happening faster than ever, and to stay ahead, you need to anticipate what’s next. Legal challenges come from all directions. We understand and work together with you to solve the toughest legal issues in major industries and commercial centers around the world. Whether you’re expanding into new markets, considering capital from new sources, or dealing with increasingly complex regulation or disputes, we can help. Whether change brings opportunity, risk, or disruption, be ready by working with Hogan Lovells.
Straight talking. Understanding and solving the problem before it becomes one. Delivering clear and practical advice that gets your job done. Hogan Lovells offers extensive experience and insights gained from working in some of the world’s most complex legal environments and markets for corporations, financial institutions, and governments. We help you identify and mitigate risk and make the most of opportunities. Our 2,500 lawyers on six continents provide practical legal solutions wherever your work takes you.

A fast-changing and inter-connected world requires fresh thinking combined with proven experience. That’s what we provide. Progress starts with ideas. And while imagination helps at every level, our legal solutions are aligned with your business strategy. Our experience in cross-border and emerging economies gives us the market perspective to be your global partner. We believe that when knowledge travels, opportunities arise.

Our team has a wide range of backgrounds. Diversity of backgrounds and experience delivers a broader perspective. Perspectives which ultimately make for more rounded thinking and better answers for you.

Stefano Sutti

Stefano Sutti, Studio Legale Sutti’s Managing Partner, is personally recommended for “corporate work” in the results of the analysis of the Italian legal market following recommendations by London lawyers, which is available online on the World Legal Forum – A Guide to Law Firms around the Globe, and has been published by the issue of June 1999 of the British magazine InBrief.

The same analysis also recommends Studio Legale Sutti for, inter alia, commercial property matters. Similarly, Stefano Sutti and SLS are recommended to all American attorneys by the American Bar Association’s prestigious Guide to Foreign Law Firms, edited by the Section of International Law and Practice, and Stefano Sutti is recommended by the “Commercial Litigation & arbitration” section of European Legal Expert.

The Dispute Resolution Practice:

Studio Legale Sutti is indisputedly the Italian international law firm the most oriented towards contentious and semi-contentious work. In this respect, it is in a position to represent final clients and assist foreign colleagues in Milan, Bergamo, Vigevano, Rome, Genoa, Monza & Brianza, through its local offices; and throughout Italy, profiting from an extensive network of local correspondents in all the other most important judicial centres of the country. Morever, after the establishment of our Sofia, Belgrade and Bucharest offices, our contentious practice has been extended to representation before all Bulgarian, Serbian and Romanian Courts, where we rely on the presence of some of the very leading local counsel in our ranks.

Litigation, arbitration, appeals and ADR are not managed by a separate department, because in Italy they are not considered, according to a very old tradition, an area of practice per se; but rather a supplementary, specific skill of lawyers who specialise in the area of the substantial law involved in the merits of each given case.

Litigation and dispute resolution work is tightly integrated with the rest of the Firm’s practice, in particular with services related to ADR, and to strategic business advice, in this area largely based upon the Harvard risk tree analysis, a process which is constantly revised and updated in cooperation with the client, and if possible with his in-house counsel department.

Studio Legale Sutti:

Studio Legale Sutti was founded in 1953 by Dr. Angelo Sutti, Knight of the Italian Republic, as an Italian law firm with a strong focus on company-commercial law and intellectual property & competition law offering its services to businesses and entrepreneurs. In the late seventies the Firm began an uninterrupted growth cycle, eventually making it one of the largest Italian firms and in fact a multinational firm.

In the mid-eighties, SLS’s practice became increasingly involved in the international arena, and began interviewing foreign candidates in its recruitment operations. This also led the Firm to establish its two representation offices abroad in 1992, namely in London and Tokyo, offering the Firm’s services to the local markets; and to participate actively to the life of a number of foreign chambers of commerce and trade associations in Italy.

The domestic operation of SLS, which had already included two regional offices serving Northern Italy, respectively situated in the area of Bergamo and Brescia (in Trescore Balneario) and in the area of Pavia and the southern Milanese province (in Abbiategrasso), was significantly reinforced in 1993, when the Firm merged with Monti & Partners – another well-known Milan-based law firm active since 1927 in international investments and trade matters, as well as banking and financial law -, and moved its Head Office to the current prestigious premises in Milan, via Montenapoleone 8.

New Italian offices were established in the same period, respectively in Rome; Monza; and Genoa, where SLS was honoured to be joined by the partners and associates of Studio Pennisi.

In the meantime, SLS had become both an interdisciplinary and multinational firm having welcomed patent attorneys and tax advisors (commercialisti) to its ranks, and established the single largest practice of South-Eastern Europe (in terms of human resources, territorial coverage and turnover).
